Postby Electroblogger » Sun 4. Oct 2009, 17:24

Only one month to go until ADE takes over Amsterdam for a full 4 days of electronic music finery, so we thought we’d get in touch to give you some up-to-date news on what to expect from this years conference, along with some top tips on how to get the best out of ADE.

ADE Next
First up, we’re very excited to announce the launch of ADE NEXT, a new platform for the next generation of DJ’s and producers to help them get started in the music industry. Taking place on Saturday 24th October, ADE NEXT features a host top DJ’s, producers and industry professionals on hand to pass on their valuable advice. Speakers include Dave Clarke (GB), Peter Hook (New Order & Joy Division, GB), Dirty Vegas (GB), Dan Tait (Pioneer, GB), Mike Banks (US), Carl Craig (US), Michel de Hey (NL), Benny Rodrigues (NL) and Radio Slave (DE) with more to be announced. For more details visit http://www.amsterdam-dance-event.nl/ade-next.

How To Get The Most Out Of ADE
We’ve been busy compiling some top tips from artists appearing at ADE...hope you find them useful! If you would like to request images / guest mixes from any of these artists please just get in touch.

PETER HOOK

First up, the inimitable Peter Hook. Here’s Peter’s top ten tips for surviving a music conference…

1. Make sure someone else pays for you.
2. Always get steaming drunk before your panel.
3, Be sure to make a name for yourself. (see above about getting drunk)
4. Never network! You’re worth more than that.
5. Don’t be a prostitute! (see above about networking).
6. Be sure to have a fight in the bar!
7. Don’t go and see any bands.
8. Steal everything you can!
9. Get barred from the next one!
10. Congratulations, by following those nine tips, you have become another Peter Hook.

Peter is appearing on a panel at ADE – don’t miss it. He’s not a man to mince his words so this is bound to be talking point!

DAN TAIT

For some more practical (!) tips on the conference itself here are Dan Tait’s top tips for getting the most out of the ADE music conference. (Dan is appearing on the Inspiration vs Technology panel at ADE with Pioneer and is also taking part in the ADE Next day too)

1. The ADE is a marathon, not a sprint. Make sure while you enjoy the night events you still have enough energy for the day as the panels are so rewarding - you can go to clubs anytime, but maybe not see Jeff Mills give a keynote interview.
2. Some of the panels will be very busy, so get to the room early to avoid having to stand for an hour.
3. It sounds obvious, but don't forget your business cards! We've all done it.
4. Make sure you sometimes just go where your nose takes you, rather than planning everything down to the last detail. It's a rich event and you will always be assured quality, so try something new.
5. Avoid taking an audio CD of your music, it's far better to put it on a CD as data so that people can put it on their computers and see what each track is called. Also this way you can include your press pack.
6. Don't pay the extortionate rate for internet at your hotel as ADE provides free WIFI.
7. I know it sounds tricky for first timers, but don't take cabs everywhere because you'll be surprised at how close everything actually is (except obviously Powerzone and Sands). But remember to not think of a landmark that is by a bridge or water...!
8. There is a temptation at ADE to be more reflective as it's at the end of the summer/year, but look at the conference as building the foundations for next year and sort out those relationships and colabs to have ready for Miami.
9. Not specific to ADE, but any conference, having a nice chat and exchanging business cards is half the job, but follow-up afterwards to really make the event count.
10. When you're walking the streets of Amsterdam, it's not only the trams that might knock you down, you're more likely to get knocked down by a bike, so watch out!

Favourite clubs, restaurants and hang-outs:

1. Check out the Foam Gallery. Always very interesting shows on there.
2. A lot of the clubs are fantastic, particularly Melkweg (Milkyway). Panama and Paradiso are good but beware as a lot of them change their names from year to year.
3. You can get a great steak in Amsterdam and even my American steak head friends love the Argentine steak on Damstraat.

MICHEL DE HAY

Dutch DJ Michel De Hay has put together his tips on the Top 10 events at ADE:

1. Innervisions at Trouw on the 22th of October
2. Bla Bla Label showcase at Stubnitz (great boat) on 23th of October
3. Agent Audio & Babylon at Studio 80 on the 23th of October
4. Minus or Cocoon at the Powerzone on the 23th and 24th of October
5. Vrijbuiters goes Berlin Underground at Studio K on the 24th of October
6. Pendulum at Paradiso on the 22th of October
7. Remote Areas at Melkweg on the 25th of October (Almost all Amsterdam techno based dj's together)
8. Electronation at Melkweg on the 21th of October
9. Click at Westerunie on the 23th of October.
10. The conferences at the Dylan Hotel and Felix

Favourite clubs: Studio 80, Stubnitz, Trouw Melkweg, Paradiso

2000 AND ONE

One more Dutch DJ’s top tips (Let’s face it – they are bound to know what they are talking about!)

1. Go to as many parties as you can
2. Drink as much as you can
3. Smoke as much marajuhana as you can coz it is legal here
4. Take an english - dutch phrase book to impress the right girl/boy
5. Dress to kill
6. Bring all your savings
7. Bring your records, as you might end up playing an after party

Favourites...

Clubs: Studio 80, Trouw, Paradiso, Melkweg
Restaurants: Akitsu (Rozengracht 228-230, Amsterdam, Japanese), Yam Yam -
Trattoria (Frederik Hendrikstraat 90, Amsterdam, Itallian), Samba
Kitchen (Ceintuurbaan 63, Amsterdam, Brazilian), Bordewijk (Noordermarkt
7, Amsterdam, French)
Hang-outs: Cafe Twstd, Chocolate Bar, Finch café, Sugar Factory

CARL CRAIG

And finally…Carl Craig. A man of few words but he knows where its at! His Top 3 events will be his panel with mike banks, his dj performance with mike banks and radio slave on Friday night at Trouw and his project for rocket cinema on Saturday evening. Check them out!

The Amsterdam Dance Event is organized by the Amsterdam Dance Event foundation, an initiative of Buma Cultuur, and takes place from 21-24 October in Amsterdam.

Berliner DJ Gianni Vitiello an Lungenembolie verstorben

Postby Electroblogger » Mon 14. Dec 2009, 01:33

GIANNI !!!

Danke

MAKING CONTAKT – THE DOCUMENTARY by Ali Demirel, Richie Hawt

Postby Electroblogger » Thu 7. Jan 2010, 02:16

MAKING CONTAKT – THE DOCUMENTARY
by Ali Demirel, Richie Hawtin, Niamh Guckian and Patrick Protz

In 2008, Minus celebrated its ten year anniversary with CONTAKT - a free-flowing, improvisational show involving the label’s top DJs and live performers backed up by state of the art visuals. The fly-on-the-wall documentary edited by Niamh Guckian (Totally Wired Movie) superbly documents the journey, offering a unique, behind the scenes look at what makes this crazy, passionate and highly focused group of individuals tick, as they attempt to redefine the conventional clubbing experience.

Interspersed with a running commentary from the artists, friends and backroom staff who made the event possible, it’s a warts ‘n’ all appraisal of the highs, lows, triumphs and near catastrophes that accompanied the tour, revealing exactly what it takes to get a performance of this magnitude on the road and keep the electronic movement pushing forward.

Aptly kicking off amid the shaky foundations of St Andrews Hall in Detroit, where the bass frequencies literally bring the house down, the show moves on through a host of major cities before peaking with an awe-inspiring spectacle in Amsterdam and a memorable finale in Tokyo. Each venue poses a new challenge and the close-up camera style and subtle juxtaposition of images get right to the heart of the matter as the crew battle with a seemingly endless string of problems - whether it’s the dimensions of the building, an excommunicated Cube, overheating equipment or self-inflicted software updates. As the drama unfolds, it’s fascinating to watch how the show evolves. The nimbus clouds from the Detroit experience slowly disperse and the performers gradually embrace the new format, harnessing the creative potential at their fingertips. It all boils down to keeping a cool head while others are losing theirs and the multi-tasking Minus collective all have a part to play in making sure the show can go on.

The DVD will be released on February 26th, 2010. There’ll be a preview of the final DVD version during the Club Transmediale.10 festival at Babylon Berlin on Feb 3rd, 2010. The preview will be open to the public, and followed by a Q&A with Richie Hawtin and Ali Demirel.

The European Music Conference and Showcase Festival sold out

Postby Electroblogger » Tue 12. Jan 2010, 18:40

EUROSONIC NOORDERSLAG ABOUT TO START
The European Music Conference and Showcase Festival completely sold out

Kicking off this week from 14th to 16th January in Groningen the event addresses the current developments and state of affairs within the European music industry. During the conference over 100 panels, discussions, industry meetings, awards ceremonies and presentations on the state and the future of the European music industry will take place and over 250 artists from all over Europe will play at the festival by night.

Showcase festival
Being the largest showcase festival in Europe EuroSonic Noorderslag forms an important platform for new European talent. With the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Yourope and Network Europe giving extended exposure to the performing artists, the event plays a vital role in the development and circulation of talent in Europe.

A glimpse of some of the 250 artists that are scheduled to play are;
And So I Watch You From Afar (IR), Appleblim (GB), CALLmeKAT (DK), Choir of Young Believers (DK), C-Mon Kypski vs Metropole Orkest (NL), Creature With the Atom Brain (BE), Customs (BE), De Staat (NL), Delorentos (IR), DeWolff (NL), donkeyboy (NO), Ellie Goulding (GB), Elske DeWall (NL), Fagget Fairys (DK), Foreign Beggars (GB), Imelda May (IR), Isbells (BE), Jamaica (FR), Knalpot (NL), Laura Jansen (NL), Moke (NL), Pony the Pirate (NO), Promo (live) & Guests (NL), Rox (GB), Schlachthofbronx (DE), Seabear (IS), Sivert Höyem (NO), The Mad Trist (NL), Valerius (NL) and Waylon (NL).

Conference
During the conference a key topic at this year's conference will be the current state of affairs within music distribution of European music in Europe. In "Trans Europe Express Moving music" Vladimir Sucha, Director Culture and Communication DG Education and Culture of the European Commission, together with representatives of Yourope, European Music Office (EMO), European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Impala, IMMF, Buma /Stemra and Clintons UK will present an analysis of the present a string of panels on the state of the European music scene, inviting and suggesting recommendations of what still needs to be done to create a truly, accessible and diverse European music market for European repertoire.

In the panel 20/20 vision the present and future state of a highly volatile music industry will be discussed from two points of view. If our business is to continue to prosper in the most difficult of times, there will presumably need to be a call on a combination of experience and innovation. Four professionals who have worked in various sectors of this business for 20 years or more have been invited to share the floor with four twenty year old relative newcomers intent on making a future in the industry, to discuss where we've been, why certain sectors are presently in the mess they're in, where we're going and how to get there.

There will also be several keynotes by top professionals such as Steve Knopper, a contributing editor for Rolling Stone Magazine, who is the author of "Appetite for Self-Destruction: The Spectacular Crash of the Record Industry in the Digital Age" will talk about the position of the traditional record industry within the digital age. Alexander Osterwalder, a leading expert in the international field of business model innovation, will also share his knowledge in his key note on Business Models.

Other topics will include 'How to diminish the trash, the overload of CO2 and human waste at festival areas', the changing roles of agents in near future in the 'Agent Panel', with Ed Beckett (Littlebig, Lucy Dickins (International Talent Booking), William Hann (13 Artists, UK), Robin Sumpton (Luger) and Tom Windish (The Windish Agency) and 'What can we learn from football', where marketing director Peter Kentie from the Dutch football team PSV speaks about their marketing concept and about the innovative way the club uses new media and how this can reflect to artists, festivals and venues.

Awards
During EuroSonic Noorderslag developments within the music industry are not only being discussed but also rewarded. With a wide range of awards EuroSonic Noorderslag is the place for both public and business awards. On Wednesday, the European Festival Award show will take place for the first time ever, celebrating the ever-growing strength and diversity of the pan-European music festival marketplace. Thursday evening is devoted to the seventh edition of Europe's most prestigious award show, the European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA's). With these awards the European Commission and the European Broadcasting Union aim to highlight European artists who succeed in selling albums and touring outside their home territory. The show will be presented by BBC-legend Jools Holland, attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima of the Netherlands and will contain numerous live performances by this year's winners.

EuroSonic Noorderslag takes place from 14 to January 16 in Groningen, The Netherlands.

For more information about the programming both the conference and festivals and a list of all awards, visit www.eurosonic-noorderslag.nl

The conference is organised by Buma Cultuur, by appointment of The Noorderslag Foundation.
